A rematch between Anthony Joshua and his champion Andy Ruiz Jr will occur in November or December, Says Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn.
American-born Mexican Ruiz created one of the greatest stuns in heavyweight boxing history to take Joshua’s IBF, WBO and WBA world heavyweight titles in New York on Saturday.
A rematch statement was a piece of the agreement for the battle, and Hearn said the condition had been activated on Tuesday after talks.
“After gatherings with AJ, Rob Mc[Cracken – Joshua’s trainer] and the supervisory group in NY, we have today set off the contracted rematch condition with Andy Ruiz Jr,” Hearn said on Twitter.
“The battle will happen in Nov/Dec at a scene to be affirmed in a matter of seconds.”
English contender Joshua, 29, was amazed multiple times as Ruiz challenged his dark horse status to win in seven rounds at Madison Square Garden.
The already undefeated contender in this manner had a blackout test after the first defeat of his 23-battle career.
The new champion, who was born in the United States but fights under the Mexican flag, has recently said he will take a rematch whenever.
